Description
I had asked Freyad-Dryden specifically what the Gatekeeper looked like, and he said it more or less manifested as purple-black mass with eyes that, when examined closely, are actually windows to other lands. So I thought, "What if I do sky shots that have the Sun in all the shots? When glanced at, the Sun will look like a pupil/iris, but when you look closer, you'll see little elements of scenery in most of them, so you've got the different places thing going." In retrospect, I would have liked to refine this picture more, make it look slicker, and all, but I figured I should just do the best with what I had and give it to the guy already.
Yeah... This is the one that stumped me. A black mass in a doorway with eyes. What do you do with that? I literally thought about this every week since I got the request. And I mean that with complete understanding of how the word 'literally' works. Sincerely sorry I couldn't have gotten this done TWO YEARS AGO when it was asked of me. In the midst of school, a new job, artistic development in many other skills, my Mac failing and then being revived, the discovery of Team Fortress 2's fantastic design, and life in general, it kind of got away from me. Granted, the style I used to color this picture as well as the others was only developed a few months ago, so... whatever I would have done before I started using this style probably would have been awful.
In addition, since there are so many of these, I'm only leaving the lesser end of several up here, so look while you can. I may just shift 'em to scraps or something.
P.S. This look so much better on a Mac. Soooooo much better.I love how you did the eyes. That's just such an awesome way to approach the idea. Every pupil is a sun or a moon, but you don't notice that until you bring the picture up to full size. It just works so well. Really cool.
